Junior Dragons Learning Program
Drexel University recognizes that, for employees with school-aged children at home, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the way we are used to maintaining a healthy work-life balance and the way our children are learning and getting the educational supports they need. In response to Drexel employees' concerns about addressing the educational needs of their children while working a full-time job, Drexel Human Resources (HR) has developed the Junior Dragons Learning Program (Junior Dragons), an online, K-12 academic support and enrichment program available to the children of benefits-eligible Drexel faculty and professional staff. Drexel HR has hired a team of Drexel undergraduate and graduate students who will provide on-demand homework help and tutoring services to help your children stay on track academically during this difficult time. This service is free for all benefits-eligible Drexel employees.
How Does it Work?
Before you can participate in Junior Dragons, you will first need to complete an enrollment and waiver form via Qualtrics. We will then grant you access to the Microsoft Teams site through which the program is administered. For instruction on how to set up and use Teams, please visit the Drexel IT website.
There are two ways to receive tutoring/learning support services:
- "Drop-In" Tutoring Services: During set hours (e.g. M-F 3-6 p.m.), you will log into the Zoom meeting to request tutoring, and a program administrator will help assign your child to a Drexel Student Coach. The program administrator will send the child and Drexel Student Coach to a Zoom breakout room to begin the session.
- Pre-Scheduled Tutoring Services: To request pre-scheduled tutoring services, you will work with the program administrator to indicate what subjects your child needs help with. The program administrator will pair your child with a Drexel Student Coach and send you the appointment/Zoom information to get started.
The Junior Dragons program will also offer live enrichment sessions presented by Drexel departments and Drexel students, as well as a resource library consisting of internal and external resources for learning, mental health, time management, and more. The live enrichment session calendar and resource library are available in the Microsoft Teams Files tab.
Who Will Be Tutoring My Child?
Drexel HR received an overwhelming response from Drexel undergraduate and graduate students interested in participating in this program as tutors and homework helpers. Candidates were vetted through a standard hiring process and underwent the necessary background checks in order to work with minors. Drexel Student Coaches received mandated reporter training as well as tutor success training provided by the Center for Learning and Academic Success Services. Drexel Student Coaches are enrolled in a wide range of programs at Drexel and are eager to help you and your families. Learn more about the tutors on the Junior Dragons Teams site after enrolling in the program.
