2008: Responsibility and Empowerment

Date: February 29th, 2008
Time: All day conference
Venue: Behrakis Hall Grand Hall , Creese Student's center, 32nd and Chestnut Street.

The Student Conference on Global Challenges 2008 was a wonderful event that came together through the efforts of the Office of International Programs, the Provost, volunteers, attendees, panelists, moderators, keynote speaker, and the staff of Event services, Drexel Catering and DUST.

This conference was special for many reasons, foremost amongst them being that it was the first cross-campus, interdisciplinary student conference at Drexel and the first public event sponsored by our newly created Office of International Programs. The conference consisted of 6 panels: Global Health, Global Social & Economic Trends, Global Business Trends, Global Justice & Human Rights, Global Media and Global Science Technology and Society. Students led the discussions on each of the panels, chaired by faculty moderators. The panels were engaging and lively and encouraged a good amount of audience participation.

Evaluations of the conference were overwhelmingly positive—except on the vegetarian food selections! Here is a sampling of comments from the attendees: "I commend the OIP! To be a new office and have a student conference already is impressive and amazing." "Thanks Fantastic experience" "Do this every year" "Please have this conference again next year! I would love to return on one of the panels!"

The Office of International Programs extends its warm appreciation to all those who helped make this event a success and we promise to be back with an even better and bigger conference next year!
