ABOUT THE STUDENT CONFERENCE ON GLOBAL CHALLENGES

The Office of International Programs is pleased to announce the 12th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenges. Focusing this year on Creativity and Innovation, the conference provides students a place to share their research and engage in critical reflection and dialogue on how creative and innovative solutions shape our global context.

Some of the biggest global challenges that we face today, such as climate change, security, migration, access to healthy food and clean water, education, infrastructure, healthcare and community engagement are being solved with creative, cutting-edge ideas leading to new innovations in development, research, media, product-design and delivery, technology, and education. With increasing global interdependence we need to tackle these challenges both locally and globally and from a variety of different perspectives – scientific, economic, political, social, and cultural.

With this is mind, Drexel University's Office of International Program's 12th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenges will have the theme of Creativity and Innovation. This conference offers undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to share their work, discuss, and reflect on how creativity and innovation shape our society today from all disciplines.

The student conference is free, open to the public, and will include breakfast, lunch, and a networking reception. If you have any questions about applying to present or attending the event, please contact the Office of Global Engagement and Education Abroad at global@drexel.edu.

STUDENT PRESENTATIONS

The Student Conference includes six student panels, where students can share original research or class projects that relate to the theme of Creativity and Innovation. Panels are moderated by expert faculty and provide an excellent opportunity for students to present in a conference setting. Panels will be mixed of undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of disciplines, and will be organized thematically.

Students interested in presenting at the Conference should submit an abstract for consideration by February 1, 2019, at 5 p.m. All abstracts should explain how the proposed presentation relates to the theme of Creativity and Innovation as well as include a clear global component. A committee of faculty and staff will review applications, and applicants will be notified of final decisions by February 7.

For the second year, one outstanding presentation from each panel will be recognized with the Presentation Award. Recipients of the Presentation Award will receive financial support from the Office of International Programs and the Office of Undergraduate Research to travel to present their work at a domestic conference in 2019.

The Student Conference will conclude with a reception that will include student poster presentations. Students of any level can apply to participate in the poster session, and can submit their abstracts below. Posters should relate to the theme of Creativity and Innovation and have a global component.
