Please note that our Global Engagement Fund program is currently paused. Endowed and grant funded projects will continue to accept applications. The link below should be used to submit applications for collaborations that advance Drexel’s 2030 Strategic Plan with our partners in India only, which is funded through a Strategic Plan Implementation grant. 

Other endowed competitions such as the Stein Fellowship will proceed as always (see the link on the left column of this webpage).

Drexel supports a wide variety of global experiences for Drexel faculty, staff, and Ph.D. candidates/Post-Docs through its Global Engagement Fund program. Applicants may apply for an award of $250-$2,500 for activities that support Drexel's mission to enhance its global impact. Applicants may only receive funds once per fiscal year (Current fiscal year: July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024). 

Undergraduate students seeking travel funding for conferences can apply for the Travel Grant sponsored by the Undergraduate Research & Enrichment Programs. For more information: https://drexel.edu/pennoni/urep/undergraduate-research/funding-research/travel-grants/.

Applications will be reviewed 3 times per year by a committee of experienced faculty and staff. Please see below for the application deadline and decision dates. If a decision date falls on a weekend or a holiday, decisions will be sent out the following business day.

Please note that the review process for the Global Engagement Fund involves a health, safety, and security review for the proposed travel destination. If the Global Engagement Fund is awarded, final review by the Travel Risk Review Committee (TRRC) may be required before funds can be released if the proposed destination poses health, safety, and security risks for the traveler.

Categories for Award Funding include:

• India Global Hubs - We have secured additional funding beyond the original $10k per cycle for projects that promote collaboration with priority partners in India during AY 2023-24, and potentially in other regions of the world. Drexel's new global strategy seeks to establish long-term, comprehensive, reciprocal partnerships with like-minded institutions, a project we call Global Hubs. We started developing these in India, our main international research partner and top sender of students to Drexel. Activities may include research and teaching collaborations, short-term faculty exchanges, and attendance of a symposium or conference, among others. Global Classrooms and ICAs have a separate funding mechanism as specified on our website. 

• International Conference, Workshop, Symposium Presentation - Faculty, staff, and Ph.D. candidates/Post-Docs may apply for funding to present a paper at an international conference outside the continental U.S.
• Global Research & Teaching  - This award supports faculty who conduct research or teach abroad, particularly if they work with our international partners.
• Access, Equity, and Inclusion  - This award funds global engagement experiences that actively support Drexel's mission to promote access, equity, inclusion and belonging. Such activities may include research or other forms of collaborations with a focus on underrepresented communities, global civic engagement, such as community-based learning outside of the mainland US; or programs that seek to achieve higher representation in global activities from underrepresented populations among Drexel students, faculty, and staff.

Applicants will choose a primary category for award funding, but will be able to connect to other categories in their personal statement.  

Preference will be given to applications which: 

• Demonstrate a significant impact on the research and academic career of the applicant(s); 
• Connect to Drexel’s Strategic Plan, including our developing Global Hubs institutional strategy;
• Have a clear potential to yield long-term ties between Drexel faculty members and scholars, organizations, or educational institutions outside of the United States;
• Document commitment of funding and support from other institutional sources, whether internal or external to Drexel.

Application Process: 

A Summary of the project clearly outlining its goals, relevance, methods, timeline, impact, and proposed budget in two pages or less and a Letter of Support from the Department Head or Direct Supervisor needs to be uploaded. Please fill out this form once all materials are ready for submission.
