Radioactive Material Use

Investigators who desire to use radioactive materials in their laboratory must apply for authorization from the University's Radiation Safety Committee. The Committee reviews the investigator's training and experience with radioactive materials and the proposed use of radioactive materials. The Committee will then determine if the proposed work is within the conditions and limitations of federal and state licenses, the facilities and equipment are adequate to perform the work safely, and procedures are conducted to minimize the risk of exposure and containment.

Applications are available on the Radiation Safety Office (RSO) Authorization Process webpage and must be submitted to the RSO. Investigators that have been approved to use radioactive materials in their laboratory must comply with the radiation safety program and adhere to any conditions of approval.
