Biological Safety
The University’s biological safety program establishes facility requirements and work practices to protect the health and safety of students, faculty and staff, and meet regulatory requirements that are required by Occupational safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The guidelines have been prepared to provide guidance to work with potentially hazardous microbial agents, animals and other hazardous biologicals recombinant DNA molecules and the proper use of biological safety cabinets and laminar flow hoods.
The program covers the following:
- Biological Safety Manual
- Institutional Biosafety Committee
- Recombinant and Synthetic Nucleic Acid Research
- Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan
- Select Agents
- University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR)
- Hazard Communication
- Sharps Safety
- Infectious Waste Management
The University’s Biological Safety Office (BSO) is Jonathan Chase who is the Executive Director of EHRS. The BSO is responsible for the implementation of the policy recommended by the Drexel University UBSC. The BSO identifies potential problem areas and suggests to the UBSC safety objectives to be achieved. Contact Jonathan Chase if you have any questions or concerns
