Non-Ionizing Radiation

Non-ionizing radiation includes the spectrum of ultraviolet (UV), visible light, infrared (IR), microwave (MW), radio frequency (RF) and extremely low frequency (ELF). Lasers commonly operate in the UV, visible, and IR frequencies.  Examples of non-ionization radiation in a patient-care setting include using ultraviolet (UV) light for sterilization and skin treatment and utilizing lasers in dermatology, ophthalmology and surgical procedures. More information can be found regarding non-ionizing radiation at OSHA Non-Ionizing Radiation.
