ASCE Hosts Conference on Diversity and Inclusion

The Drexel University Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) hosted a conference on the topic of diversity and inclusion. The goal of the conference was to initiate a discussion within the College of Engineering regarding perceptions on diversity, how inclusion is different, and why they both matter. Presentations included a student panel and a professional panel which consisted of professors, and industry professionals. Panelists represented different genders, ethnicities, nationalities, and STEM disciplines. The speakers candidly shared their experiences, and audience engagement was frequent.

The event also included a presentation on socioeconomic diversity by alumnus David Tigreros. Past Drexel ASCE presidents Dr. Christine Fiori and Ajin Fatima gave the keynote and the closing speech, respectively.

The student panel consisted of Nay Ye Oo, Isadora Viana Duarte, Kristine Loh, and Charlie Chiccarine. The professional panel consisted of Dr. Thomas Heverin (CCI), Dr. Chris Sales (CAEE department), Dr. Andrea Welker (Villanova University), Egla Qori (CoE alumna), and Dr. Jennifer Atchison (MEM department).
