Maria Lukatskaya Receives 2015 MRS Gold Graduate Student Award

PhD student Maria Lukatskaya (advisor: Yury Gogotsi) is a recipient of an MRS Gold Graduate Student Award.

The award, presented at the 2015 Spring MRS Meeting and Exhibit, April 6-10, 2015 in San Francisco, CA, honors graduate students whose “academic achievements and current materials research display a high level of excellence and distinction.” Nine out of 31 finalists received a gold award, which consists of a plaque and a $400 prize. The title of Maria’s award-winning talk is “2D Titanium Carbide: Synthesis and Applications in Electrochemical Capacitors.”

Previous MRS Graduate Student Award winners from Drexel Materials include Gold Award recipient Michael Naguib (Spring 2014 – advisors: Michel Barsoum and Yury Gogotsi), Silver Award recipient Andrew Akbashev (Spring 2014 – advisor: Jonathan Spanier), Silver Award recipient Kelsey Hatzell (Fall 2014 – advisor: Yury Gogotsi), Gold Award recipient Steven Spurgeon (Fall 2013 – advisor: Mitra Taheri), Silver Award recipient Kristy Jost (Fall 2012 – advisor: Yury Gogotsi), and Silver Award recipient Riju Singhal (Fall 2012 – advisor: Yury Gogotsi).

Additionally, the Drexel MRS Student Chapter won the MRS student chapter t-shirt design competition, a recognition they previously received in 2013.
