Janeyshka Ortiz-Flores, MFT

2023-2024 Doctoral Intern

Janeyshka Ortiz-Flores is a doctoral intern at the Drexel University Counseling Center, currently pursuing her doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Chestnut Hill College. She completed her bachelor's degree at La Salle University before receiving her Master's in Family Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University.

Janeyshka has gained clinical experience in various settings, including outpatient community mental health centers, private practices, and college counseling. She utilizes an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from family systems, psychodynamic theory, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Janeyshka also adopts a holistic, strengths-based, and intersectional perspective, working collaboratively with her clients throughout the healing process. Within the therapeutic space, she aims to provide a warm, safe, and supportive environment, facilitating clients' exploration of their authentic selves and cultural identities in the room. She recognizes the complex ways in which various aspects of identity intersect and impact individuals' experiences and mental health. She also believes therapy is a place for clients to speak about their truth without judgment while celebrating and leveraging their strengths and identities. Her clinical interests include, but are not limited to trauma, family conflicts, identity development, multiculturalism, and emotion regulation.

Outside of work, Janeyshka loves to sing, read books on her Kindle, and keep up with reality TV shows. She was also born and raised in the North Philadelphia area and enjoys eating authentic Latinx dishes from her community.
