Laura Vearrier, MD, is board certified in emergency medicine. She sees patients in Center City Philadelphia. At Hahnemann University Hospital, Dr. Vearrier serves on the Ethics Committee and at Drexel University College of Medicine she serves on the Committee for Program Improvement for the Emergency Medicine Residency.

Dr. Vearrier earned her bachelor of arts degree in molecular biology from Princeton University and her doctor of medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. She completed her residency in emergency medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital/Drexel University College of Medicine.

Dr. Vearrier is currently completing her master of arts degree in bioethics and health policy at the Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics at Loyola University.

Laura Vearrier, MD, is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. She is active in both undergraduate and graduate medical education at Drexel University College of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital. At the undergraduate level, she serves as a course facilitator for the Physician and Patient course and the Professional Formation course. She has developed educational modules on bioethical concepts and issues for undergraduate courses. At the graduate medical education level, Dr. Vearrier is active in both didactic and bedside teaching of emergency medicine residents and serves as a mentor. She is the founder and director of the Women in Emergency Medicine Interest Group.

Research

Dr. Vearrier’s research interests include end-of-life ethical issues, the intersection of bioethics and emergency medicine, and healthcare overutilization. She is currently studying the effects of nurse-directed ultrasound-guided intravenous cannulation on patient satisfaction and emergency department efficiency.
