Tutoring Center

Lisa and John McNichol Early Childhood Education Lab

Welcome to the Tutoring Center. We provide one-on-one academic tutoring services to Drexel students who are members of the early childhood education workforce. This service is made possible thanks to a grant we received from PHMC’s Early Childhood Education Professional Development Organization which works with and for the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) in the PA Department of Education.

Logistics

  • Tutoring is available online via Zoom and on campus in the ECE lab by appointment only.
  • Tutors are available in the evenings and occasionally on weekends. If you need daytime tutoring please submit a request and we will do our best to honor it.
  • Students can meet a tutor as frequently as once a week for one hour, or less frequently based on need, during the academic quarter.
  • If you need assistance or have additional questions please contact the director, Dr. Michael Haslip.

Scheduling a Tutor

Students can schedule free academic tutoring by submitting this Student Tutoring Request Form. A tutor will then contact you directly to schedule an appointment. The first appointment will be an initial consultation to discuss your academic goals and determine if ongoing tutoring will be helpful to you.

Referring a Student for Tutoring

Faculty and advisors: please submit the Tutor Referral Form to introduce a student to the tutoring center and a tutor will follow-up with the student directly.

Jennifer Zingales - Drexel University School of Education

Jennifer Zingales

I am Jennifer Zingales and I am pleased to be working with future educators and guiding them through this important achievement. I am currently working in the field of early childhood special education as an administrator for an Intermediate Unit. Prior to this position, I was the early intervention program specialist and an early intervention teacher. During my 20-plus year career in the field, perhaps my proudest moment was being selected Teacher of the Year at the Intermediate Unit. I have a background in early childhood education, elementary education as well as special education. I look forward to sharing my many experiences with Drexel students. I am also the proud mother of two teenagers, one of which is in his sophomore year of college, further solidifying my desire to help other college students find success in their educational journey. I am also the wife of a very supportive husband and the dog mom to two rescues, Sox and Sneakers!

Dr. Christi Weitzel

Christi Weitzel

Dr. Christi Weitzel believes that quality early childhood programs can have multiple lasting benefits on children’s development. This belief is exemplified through 25 years experience in the Early Childhood field. The last 15 years have been with the Berks County Intermediate Unit, most recently overseeing the three early childhood programs: Head Start, Pre-K Counts, and Early Intervention. I earned my dual bachelor’s degrees in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from Kutztown University. I recently completed a Doctorate in Education Administration and Leadership at California University of Pennsylvania, exploring the benefits of peer coaching among early childhood educators. I enjoy helping others and anticipate that my experiences will benefit Drexel University students seeking tutoring supports available through the McNichol Early Childhood Education Lab to guide their success.

Holly Acosta - Drexel University School of Education

Holly Acosta

There is no better investment of my time than to aid in developing future quality educators. I have been the Director of Early Childhood, at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, for the past four years. This involves overseeing Head Start, Pre-K Counts, and Early Intervention within Montgomery County. Prior to this role, I have served as a Pupil Services Director, School Principal, Curriculum Supervisor, and School Psychologist in several surrounding school districts. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Towson University, in Baltimore, Maryland. I earned my Masters, Doctorate, and several certifications from Widener and Immaculata Universities. I have also earned School Psychologist, Principal K-12, Pupil Services, Curriculum and Instruction and Superintendent Certifications. My proudest moment as an educator (principal) was when our elementary school was awarded National Blue Ribbon School and Title 1 School of Distinction within the same school year. I am excited to work with the Drexel students, in the McNichol Early Childhood Education Lab. I look forward to assisting students in the field of education and helping them achieve their academic goals.
