Pulse - Summer 2024 Explore & Serve Day

2024 Explore and Serve Day

The Division of Pre-medical and Pre-health Programs in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies held its seventh annual Explore & Serve Day on April 9, 2024, in the Health Sciences Building. Explore & Serve is dedicated to recognizing graduate students’ outstanding contributions to either biomedical science research or community service endeavors.

This year’s theme focused on mental health and wellness, especially for health care providers. Via oral and poster presentations, students heard the ways in which their classmates use their research and community service endeavors to benefit society. They decompressed by interacting with one of Drexel’s therapy dogs and learned how therapy dogs can positively impact patient care and quality of life.

Michelle Rattigan, MA, ATR-BC, NCC, LPC, LPAT, a board-certified art therapist and associate clinical professor in the College of Nursing and Health Professions, gave the keynote address, which focused on the importance of self-compassion for health care professionals. Students learned from a panel of art therapy graduate students about the ways in which dance, music and art therapy can be used in patient care. Attendees also participated in group movement activities and honed their creativity by contributing to a community art mural.
