Drexel University announced the launch of Drexel Health Clinical Operations, a transformative initiative that unifies all clinical health services under a centralized structure. Drexel Health Clinical Operations will streamline operations and ensure compliance across the University’s diverse clinical enterprise, which spans 28 clinical entities across eight colleges and schools.

The initiative will be led by Charles B. Cairns, MD, Walter H. and Leonore Annenberg Dean of the College of Medicine and senior vice president of medical affairs, who has been appointed senior vice president of Drexel Health Operations.

“This is not just a technical or administrative project—it’s a shared vision for the future of health care at Drexel,” said Dr. Cairns. “We are building a more integrated and forward-looking model that will elevate the experience of our students, faculty and professional staff, while deepening our impact across the Greater Philadelphia region and beyond.”

Key priorities of Drexel Health Clinical Operations include:

  • Collaborative governance that respects the diversity of clinical offerings while ensuring consistent oversight and best practices.
  • Expanded scope through integration of clinical programs, providers, and administrative services such as electronic health records, billing, and strategic partnerships.
  • Centralized compliance with credentialing, licensure verification, risk management and adherence to legal and privacy standards.

The newly appointed Drexel Health leadership team includes:

  • Maura Keenan, Vice President of Administration
  • Mary Gallagher Gordon, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, Vice President of Clinical Operations
  • Nathalie May, MD, FACP, Chief Medical Officer

Together, this team will guide the integration of clinical operations and advance new opportunities in clinical training and partnerships.

“This initiative reflects the spirit of partnership and innovation that has defined Drexel for decades,” said President Merlo. “It’s a deliberate and thoughtful effort that positions Drexel Health to lead in a rapidly evolving health care landscape.”
