Discovery Day 2020 took place virtually this year to maintain safe social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, but much of what makes the annual event exciting remained the same. As in years past, hundreds of participants from the College of Medicine showcased original research on Thursday, October 8, presenting on topics from neuroscience and oncology to mental health and immunology.

The research projects represent work from graduate and medical students, residents, fellows and postdoctoral trainees. Discovery Day took place online this year: Judges and other spectators reviewed posters on the event platform iPosterSessions, and learned more about researchers' poster and platform presentations over Zoom.

After considering the research they explored throughout the day, judges chose award winners in multiple categories.

Presenters, judges and other Discovery Day participants were welcomed to the event by Charles B. Cairns, MD, the Walter H. and Leonore Annenberg Dean and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, College of Medicine, and Elisabeth Van Bockstaele, PhD, the founding dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies, senior vice president for graduate and online education, and dean of the Graduate College at Drexel.

"As educators and mentors, it is rewarding to witness the success of our training efforts and at the same time, be enlightened by the findings emerging from our colleagues' laboratories," Cairns said. "For our students and fellows, it is an opportunity to share experimental results and to take well-deserved credit for your skill and perseverance."

"This event clearly demonstrates the robust research enterprise that exists here at Drexel," Van Bockstaele said.
