The 24th Annual Drexel University College of Medicine Pediatric AIDS Benefit Concert was another smashing success, raising more than $25,000 this year for children with HIV and AIDS. That brings the total amount raised to over $550,000 since the event began.

Students, faculty and guests sang, danced, and laughed their way through the February 11 event, which is organized each year by Drexel University College of Medicine students.

"It's one of the most anticipated events of the year. Not only does this event raise funds for the HIV clinic at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, but it also gives the College of Medicine community an opportunity to put down their white coats and stethoscopes for a night, and tap into a more creative side of themselves," said Colleen Delaney, second-year medical student, Pediatric AIDS Benefit Committee co-chair.

The event's other co-chair, second-year medical student Benjamin Shpeen, also spoke of the night's success. "Through donations from local businesses and restaurants as well as a stellar lineup of performers, the event ran smoothly and feedback from many attendees expressed how much fun they had throughout the night," said Shpeen.

Eric Quinn, also a second-year medical student, served as an entertainment co-chair and performed on stage with The Dennis Novack Experience. "It's an incredible feeling to be able to continue playing the instrument you love and perform while in medical school. It's even more of an honor to perform for your friends and faculty while raising money for a good cause like fighting pediatric AIDS," said Quinn.

The concert directly benefits the patients of the Dorothy Mann Center for Pediatric and Adolescent HIV at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. The center is the largest of its kind in the tri-state area, providing comprehensive care, including social services, to children infected with HIV and their families. The money raised by PABC helps provide affected families with emergency funds for housing, utilities, food and rent, and helps to offset other expenses such as college application fees and supplies for summer camp.

St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is an academic campus of Drexel University College of Medicine.
