In Memory of Dr. Andres Castellanos
December 20, 2017
Drexel University College of Medicine is saddened by the loss of our friend and colleague Dr. Andres Castellanos, who passed away on December 12, 2017, after a prolonged illness.
An outstanding clinician and educator, Dr. Castellanos specialized in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. He was an associate professor in the Department of Surgery, executive vice chair of the department, and program director of the Drexel/Hahnemann General Surgery Residency program, of which he was a graduate. He was also an instructor in advanced trauma life support at Hahnemann University Hospital.
More important, he was a beloved colleague. Last year, the faculty and staff in the Department of Surgery organized a special Red Cross blood drive in his honor, and in October the bariatric surgery staff entered a team in the Philadelphia Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, again in support of Andres.
Our thoughts are with these close co-workers and friends, and of course with his wife, Jill, and their son, Alex.
In lieu of flowers, at his family's request, donations in memory of Dr. Castellanos may be made to the Andres Castellanos Simulation and Education Fund, Drexel University College of Medicine, P.O. Box 8215, Philadelphia, PA 19101, or by calling 215.762.2230.
