It’s tee time for the 14th annual Manuel Stamatakis Golf Classic. The June 22 event, at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, raises scholarship funds for Drexel University College of Medicine students. Since the event began in 2001, more than $3 million has been raised for medical student scholarships through the Manuel N. Stamatakis Scholarship Fund, which makes money available to students who have everything it takes to succeed, but have a financial hardship.

“Personally, it is very rewarding to be involved in furthering the education of tomorrow’s health care practitioners,” said Stamatakis. This year's fundraiser will also see the return of the Matching Gift Challenge for Scholarships in Medicine. Qualifying donations are set to be matched dollar for dollar, which will double the scholarship amounts available to each medical student.

John Fry, president of Drexel University, is serving as honorary chair of the event. The co-chairs for this year's golf classic are Daniel V. Schidlow, MD, Annenberg Dean and senior vice president of medical affairs at Drexel University College of Medicine; Michael P. Halter, CEO of Hahnemann University Hospital; and William R. Sasso, Esq., chairman of Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP.
