Daniel V. Schidlow, MD, Named Interim Dean of Drexel University College of Medicine

Daniel V. Schidlow, MD, has been appointed interim dean and senior vice president of health affairs at Drexel University College of Medicine, effective November 1, 2011. Schidlow replaces Richard V. Homan, MD, who recently resigned from the College.
Schidlow had been serving as professor and chair of the College of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics, professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology, and a senior associate dean. He had also been the physician-in-chief at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia since 1998.
Schidlow joined Drexel University College of Medicine in 1994. He chairs the College's Educational Coordinating (Curriculum) Committee and has chaired a task force that reviewed and developed a blueprint for changes in the third- and fourth-year curriculum. He has also played a key role in preparing for accreditation visits by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and has chaired accreditation committees on behalf of the Middle States Commission for Higher Education.
At St. Christopher's, Schidlow has been instrumental in growing the staff from 75 to more than 180 full-time equivalents over the past 10 years and expanding clinical and academic programs. He has worked with the hospital's leadership in the successful development of strategic relationships and clinical programs at partner organizations, developed the hospital research infrastructure and has mediated the relationship between the hospital and the College of Medicine.
Schidlow is a nationally and internationally recognized clinician in the field of pediatric respiratory diseases, especially cystic fibrosis. He has authored numerous publications and has been the principal investigator on numerous studies supported by governmental and privately funded grants. A greatly respected clinical educator, he has received many awards for his contributions to medical education and pediatrics, here and abroad.
