Dr. Constantine Papadakis
1946-2009

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of our beloved President who died on April 5, 2009. Without his leadership, vision and courage, this College of Medicine would not exist. Our institution is a legacy to his love of learning, his loyalty to those of us who make it our life’s work and his unwavering commitment to Drexel. Some of us know that his own father was a physician and this medical school was precious to him through a deep personal understanding of the commitment required to be a physician. He possessed a brilliant mind coupled with unsurpassed leadership. His passing will create a void for us, but we are strong now and we will continue to grow this College of Medicine of which he was so proud. He will be deeply missed not only here at the College of Medicine but within the entire community. I feel fortunate to have had the privilege of working so closely with him and I will miss him deeply.

Dr. Papadakis, called “Taki” by friends, colleagues and loved ones is survived by his wife of 39 years, Eliana, and daughter Maria, 23, a 2008 Drexel graduate.

Viewing at Bringhurst Funeral Home 225 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, Pa. 19004, (610) 668-9900, from 3 – 5 PM and 6 – 9 PM.

Tuesday, April 14th

Funeral Service – Noon, at St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church; 35 N. Malin Road, Broomall, Pa., 19008, (610) 353-1592.

Interment – West Laurel Hill Cemetery; 215 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

Reception – “The Orchards” 75 Crestline Road, Wayne, Pa.

Tuesday, May 7th

A memorial service at 4 PM on Drexel’s Main Campus. Exact location to be determined.

NOTE: We have been informed that the Church has limited seating. For your convenience, the funeral will also be simulcast at Queen Lane, Suite 104, Geary Auditorium B and Stiles Hall at Noon. Any additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

For the College of Medicine, classes will be cancelled for 1st and 2nd year students only from 12-2 PM.3rd and 4th year students will be expected to participate in their clinical rotations.
