Prevention of Diabetes and Obesity Throughout the Lifespan

Stella Volpe, PhD, chair, professor, Nutrition Sciences Department

This seminar is geared towards faculty, physicians, residents, graduate students and medical students who are interested in learning about how to prevent obesity and diabetes as well as the relationship between obesity and osteoarthritis, especially in women. Approximately 40 minutes will be allotted for the talk and 15-20 minutes will be available for questions/discussion. Light refreshments will be served.

Following the seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify different nutrition and/or exercise approaches to obesity and diabetes prevention
  • Understand the increased risk of osteoarthritis (OA) in obese women
  • Describe mineral research in obesity and diabetes prevention
  • Describe environmental change research in obesity and diabetes prevention
