Ghana, Unite for Sight
Summer 2018

I participated in the Unite for Sight program in Ghana. I traveled with several other healthcare providers and volunteers and was responsible for performing eye exams on patients. I believe this trip really enriched me, both as a person and as a future doctor. At many times during the trip, I was overwhelmed with the warm spirit of the people of Ghana. Even those who had very little radiated with happiness. Everyone was so kind and welcoming and made me feel right at home. It felt so incredibly rewarding to be able to give something back to these people who so openly shared their homeland with me. As I gave each eye exam, it reminded me more and more of why I want to be a doctor: I want to always be able to help those in need.
