Cienfuegos, Cuba
Summer 2017

"This summer I participated in the Health Spanish Emersion Program in Cienfuegos, Cuba. Throughout the program we were taught medical Spanish skills, to better assist us in interacting with Spanish-speaking patients. Our Spanish classes were then supplemented by site visits relating to the community, health and environment of Cuba.

"One of the most memorable site visits was to a polyclinic where we witnessed community-based primary health care, as well as, visits to community art engagement programs, in which local artists utilized various art forms to rejuvenate their sense of community. This program provided me with an authentic cultural and educational experience.

"I lived and shared meals with a Cuban family, learned Spanish from Cuban professors and experienced the cultural diversity of Cuba first hand."
