Celter Odango
During the summer after my first year of medical school, I had the privilege of spending eight weeks in La Esperanza, Honduras, collaborating with World Vision Honduras’ WASH Team through the Dornsife Global Development Scholars program. My primary focus was studying the incidence of waterborne diseases in resource-limited communities and evaluating the impact of newly implemented water programs.
Throughout these eight weeks, I immersed myself in Honduras' rich culture, exploring its vibrant cities and forging meaningful connections with its people. I worked closely with community leaders and World Vision staff across different regions, gaining firsthand experience in public health initiatives.
This experience was invaluable not only for the contributions I made through research but also for the deep, lasting relationships I built with the communities. For anyone interested in global health, particularly in non-clinical settings, I highly recommend this program — it provides an authentic and impactful global health experience.
