College Forward Frequently Asked Questions
What is the goal of the College Forward initiative?
Our commitment to ensuring the long-term success of our students is a key priority for the College of Medicine. That success is impacted by faculty vitality and ongoing support for the needs of professional staff. The creation of a short-term (three to six months) roadmap and longer term (three to five years) strategic plan will provide insight into areas that can positively impact on our missions. It will provide the ability to be agile and responsive to changes nationally and at the University. The College of Medicine must effectively navigate challenges and advancements in academic medicine, while aligning the institution’s resources effectively.
Who is leading this initiative?
To ensure representation due to the College’s distributed model of education, four Task Forces were formed to initially perform high-level analysis of the College’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats within the academic medicine landscape.
This phase 1 approach has resulted in the setting of priorities for the four mission areas. The next step is to further explore implementation needs through focused working groups, which will delve deeper to ensure continuity and implementation of key recommendations by July 1, 2025. The phase 2 components will be to incorporate a longer term (three to five years) strategic plan for guiding our response to the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) in August 2025.
The opportunity for faculty, professional staff and students to engage is part of the plan as the work continues. The work will include collaboration leads within departments, programs and affiliate campuses that are identified in the plan, to align and implement strategic initiatives, as well as to determine the tracking and measuring of progress.
Given financial challenges at Drexel, why should the College of Medicine work toward a new strategic plan?
The College of Medicine has a proven record of adapting and changing over its history. It is imperative that we identify and capitalize on synergies for resources and knowledge sharing, with our partners, regional and affiliate medical campuses, and within the other Drexel colleges and schools, to help us support each other and discover innovative ways to continue to move forward together.
The College Forward initiative and Strategic Plan 2030 findings and strategies are meant to change and adapt with challenges and opportunities that emerge over time. The College is being proactive in understanding our landscape today, and how to best transform with the changes at Drexel University. We see the opportunity for growth in Drexel Health as a newly formed entity to enhance health sciences education, patient care and clinical research. Currently, the College of Medicine’s efforts align with Drexel’s — by actively auditing educational offerings, streamlining academic programs, and responding to the needs of our community.
