The Hamot Hospital Association was founded in Erie, PA on Feb. 7, 1881. Hamot opened its doors to the public on July 1, 1881. Today UPMC Hamot is a 445-bed tertiary care facility, regional referral hub and Level II Trauma Center.

UPMC Hamot offers a wide range of elective rotations including: cardiology, emergency medicine, general surgery, hospitalists, interventional radiology, neonatology, neurology, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology - head and neck surgery, and wound care. We provide medical students with clinically oriented experiences in a variety of patient care settings. While your elective rotations will have a community hospital focus, you will have the added perspective of UPMC Hamot’s tertiary referral service. To augment your rotations, you may be required to attend conferences, clinics and rounds pertinent to each specialty.
While at UPMC Hamot, you will also have the opportunity to participate in daily teaching rounds and discussions with emergency medicine, orthopaedic, neurology, otolaryngology, and clinical pharmacy residents. In addition, you will have access to UPMC Hamot’s medical library.
