About St. Christopher's Hospital for Children
St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is a tertiary, as well as primary care hospital. General medical/surgical bed wards are arranged primarily by age. Critical care beds are arranged in six units: oncology, cardiac care, intensive care, burn, special care and neonatal intensive care. The surgical department is well staffed. Day surgery and outpatient endoscopy services are heavily utilized; a short procedure unit is active Monday through Friday. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories directed by PhD-level personnel. Occupational and physical therapy, hearing, speech and language services, social services, discharge planning, child life and pastoral care are all available. Dental services are provided for inpatients and outpatients by St. Christopher's dental department. Child psychiatry staff are on site and participate actively in patient care and teaching. In addition to an active emergency room, patients are evaluated in a walk-in clinic and in a wide variety of both primary care and subspecialty clinics. Graduate medical education has been an integral part of St. Christopher's Hospital for Children for more than 60 years. The goal of our training programs—and our highest priority—is to offer a comprehensive, in-depth and personally rewarding educational experience in one of our many pediatric disciplines, preparing trainees to confidently choose careers in academic medicine, private practice or careers in public health.
