Global Health Education Student Experiences Rachael Miller

Drexel medical student Rachel Miller.

Cuzco, Peru
Summer 2014

"Between my first and second year of medical school, I went on a volunteer trip to Cuzco, Peru, through the International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ). While I was there, I stayed in a volunteer house with people from all over the world. On a typical day I volunteered from 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. We set up clinics in rural areas and would perform histories and physicals on over 300 people in that village. It was incredible. One week I volunteered in an OB/GYN clinic and nursery because I was thinking I might want to work in a NICU at the time. I volunteered for a total of three weeks. One of the days I was able to work with the Red Cross and helped them during one of Cuzco's major religious festivals."
