Blindness and Low Vision Studies Clearances Process Through HR Compliance

All Drexel University Blindness and Low Vision Studies (BLVS) students must obtain the following clearances for interacting with minors in preparation for field experiences. These clearances can be submitted upon admission to the program and are required ahead of a student's first field experience with minors. The Blindness and Low Vision Studies department works with the Human Resources Compliance Team at BLVSclearances@drexel.edu to process clearance documents for students and ensure clearances are on file prior to field placement start dates. While clearances are valid for Drexel purposes for five years, individual field placement sites may require more frequent renewals or additional compliance.

Instructions

Pennsylvania Enhanced Background Certification: Complete the Confidential Consent and Release form. This form must be filed before the Human Resources Compliance Team will review any documents.

Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance: The cost is $13. Follow the instructions and email your clearance to BLVSclearances@drexel.edu.

Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check: The cost is $22. Follow the instructions and email your clearance to BLVSclearances@drexel.edu.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check: The cost is $26.20. Follow the instructions and email your clearance to BLVSclearances@drexel.edu.

Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training: Drexel University Blindness and Low Vision Studies students must complete the required Reporter Training before starting their field experience. Mandated Reporter Training prepares students with the proper information on how to handle and report issues they experience at a school. Mandated Reporter Training is conducted online. You can register and complete the training at the Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center website. Candidates must save a copy of the certificate and forward a copy to BLVSclearances@drexel.edu.
