Available Programs

Drexel in Japan: CIEE Tokyo

Drexel students have the chance to spend 6 months (two terms) in Tokyo, Japan’s energetic and vibrant capital city. Students live with a local host family while taking Japanese language courses at Sophia University and exploring one of the world’s most fascinating capitals. Run by free standing program provider, CIEE, this program is open to advanced Japanese language learners and has a pre-requisite of JAPN 201.

GE3: Japan, Tohoku University

Global E3, Global Engineering Education Exchange, is an exchange program built for pre-junior or junior CoE, CCI, and BMES students. This program allows students to attend Tohoku University and immerse themselves in the culture of Sendai, Japan, in northeast Japan. Students participate in the Junior Year Program in English (JYPE), which includes an individual research training course. Drexel students have the option of participating in a 6-month study only or a full year study + co-op option at Tohoku University.

Drexel in Japan: Akita International University

Students looking to study amid natural beauty can attend Akita International University, a liberal arts school located within easy access to lush greenery, skiing areas, and the Sea of Japan coastline. Open to sophomores and up, it’s perfect for students of all majors — but is of particular interest to those in the business and entrepreneurship or humanities and social sciences programs. With small and interactive classes, AIU offers true immersion into rural Japanese life. To get the most of their experience, students are required to have taken JAPN 101 prior to their study abroad term.

Drexel in Japan: Tamagawa University

This is an ideal program for first year Graphic Design majors who wish to spend their spring term in Tokyo, Japan. Students will live and study at Tamagawa University, located in Machida-ku, which is approximately 30 minutes west of downtown Tokyo. The beautiful lush green campus of Tamagawa University provides students with an ideal tranquil retreat that can serve as a convenient base for exploring the excitement of Shinjuku and Shibuya, which are only 30-40 minutes away by train, as well as other parts of Tokyo.

This is a freshman eligible program and has no language requirement.
