Students looking to study amid natural beauty can attend Akita International University, a liberal arts school located within easy access to lush greenery, skiing areas, and the Sea of Japan coastline. Open to sophomores and up, it’s perfect for students of all majors — but is of particular interest to those in the business and entrepreneurship or humanities and social sciences programs. With small and interactive classes, AIU offers true immersion into rural Japanese life. To get the most of their experience, students are required to have taken JAPN 101 prior to their study abroad term.

International Christian University (ICU), located in the Greater Tokyo area (approximately 20-30 min by subway from Shinjuku) offers an excellent liberal arts education with an international perspective. ICU has been ranked as Japan's top private university for three consecutive years from 2019 to 2021 in the Times Higher Education's Japan University rankings. ICU offers a wide range of academic disciplines, making it an ideal destination for Drexel students. ICU offers 31 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and interdisciplinary studies.

This program is designed for first year Westphal students with specific courses catered to Drexel students from Westphal. Priority is given to Graphic Design students, but it is open to all students from Westphal as long as the courses offered fit their plan of study. There is a specific list of pre-determined and pre-approved courses that students will take as part of this program. Please refer to the Academics section of this program page.
Tamagawa University (founded in 1929) is located in the western part of Greater Tokyo, approximately 35 minutes west of Shinjuku by train. Around 10,000 students study in 8 different colleges/departments located on a beautiful green campus of approximately 610,000 square meters (150 acres).
