Records Request Policy

The Counseling Center may provide a treatment summary or record to a third party, such as a mental health treatment provider or insurance company, with the client's written permission. The Center upholds ethical and legal standards of confidentiality and will require the client's written permission by signing a release of information records form, which can be obtained by calling (215.895.1415) or emailing (counsel@drexel.edu). A current client can also discuss this request with their current treatment provider at the Center during their scheduled appointment.

Generally, the Counseling Center issues a treatment summary or letter detailing services provided. In the event that a student requests their entire file, the Center would want to discuss this process, as the client record is the property of Drexel University. The Center consults as needed around decisions about release of clinical records. Thus, the Counseling Center requests at least seven business days between the time of request and possible fulfillment of request.
