Melisa Mitchell is a licensed clinical social worker in PA. She joined the Drexel University Counseling Center in October of 2022 as their clinical case manager and therapist. She received her Masters of Social Work degree and Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in geography and urban studies at West Chester University. She completed her post-graduate trauma studies certificate at Widener University. She also obtained certification in financial social work. Melisa is passionate about empowering others to fulfill their goals and increase their sense of self. Melisa has worked in both clinical and non-clinical settings serving individuals of all life stages and diverse backgrounds at an acute psychiatric crisis center; community-based mental health clinics; and non-profit agencies providing crisis intervention, counseling, care coordination, and case management services.

Melisa works from a strength-based, humanistic, systemic, psychodynamic, and behavioral approach to counseling. Melisa also integrates different therapeutic techniques tailored to her client's current needs. Melisa believes in creating a nurturing and calm environment that fosters safety, respect, empathy, collaboration, and authenticity for her clients to facilitate their growth and wellness. Her clinical interests include body image/self-esteem, financial stress, relationships, multiculturalism, identity concerns, racial stress, grief, life adjustments/transitions, depression, anxiety and interpersonal conflicts.

In her spare time, Melisa enjoys gaming, reading and spending time with loved ones. She also enjoys baking, volunteering at local animal shelters and trying out new things.
