NIH OITE Becoming a Resilient Scientists Series
August 23, 2022
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Intramural Training and Education (OITE) is pleased to offer a FREE series of webinars and small group discussions to help you develop the confidence and resilience you need to navigate challenging situations in school, work, and life.
The series will consist of five webinars, each linked to a drop-in small-group discussion the following week. The webinars will highlight strategies needed for academic success and for thriving in research and healthcare careers. We will discuss the cultivation of skills to help you realize resilience and identify and deal with obstacles that get in your way. The material discussed will be helpful to individuals starting out, transitioning to their next experience, or mentoring others. While you may participate in any of the webinars, it is best to participate in the entire series. Concepts and themes will be developed throughout the series, and you will be able to integrate, engage with, and refine the information from the individual sessions. Data show that trainees who attended most of the sessions of the earlier "Becoming a Resilient Scientist Series" reported that they had become more resilient, were better able to handle stress and conflict in their lives, and would recommend the series highly to their colleagues.
An important part of the Becoming a Resilient Scientist series are the small discussion groups that follow the webinar. Besides the general drop-in groups (Thursdays from 3-4 p.m. ET), we will offer cohort groups this Fall. If you are interested in being part of a set cohort group to experience the series together and discuss the five topics, please sign up below.
We will host separate cohort groups for undergraduate/postbacs, graduate students, postdocs/research fellows/ clinical fellows, and medical/ other professional students. We will also offer a group specifically for neurodiverse trainees. This group will focus on the application and integration of the material for those who are neurodiverse. In this group, we will ask for confidentiality from members to ensure safety. If you are neurodiverse and you do not want to join this specific group, you are also welcome to join the general groups listed above.
The cohort groups are scheduled for Thursdays following the webinar from 2-3 p.m. ET. Depending on interest, we may not be able to accommodate all groups. The sign-up will close on September 12 at 12 p.m. ET and we will send you the link to your group via email.
You can sign-up for the cohort groups
