For Stipend-Eligible Doctoral Students

About

Effective June 1, 2023, the Graduate College is offering the SEPTA Key Advantage Program, which provides free, all-access transportation via SEPTA to stipend-eligible doctoral students. We are proud to be one of the first in Philadelphia to participate in this exciting transit benefit for doctoral students, furthering our commitment to helping students manage the increasing cost of living. While you can utilize the program for commuting to and from Drexel University, our hope is that you will also use the pass to explore Philadelphia and all it has to offer!

The SEPTA Key Advantage program works like the Anywhere TrailPass and can be used on all SEPTA modes, including Regional Rail, Market-Frankford Line, Broad Street Line, Norristown High Speed Line, CCT, and city and suburban buses and trolleys any day and time. It does not include PATCO or NJ Transit.

This offer is part of a pilot program. The University will continue to evaluate the program over the coming months and notify participants of any modifications or plans for extension.

The program is not considered a taxable benefit to students.

Eligibility

At this time, only stipend-eligible doctoral students are eligible to enroll in the program through the Graduate College. This benefit is not currently being offered to part-time or self-funded doctoral students.

How to Enroll

Eligible students will receive an email in May 2023 from jawnt (hello@jawnt.com), a Philadelphia-based technology company, with an invitation to enroll in the SEPTA Key Advantage program free of charge. Be sure to check your spam/junk folder if you do not receive the invitation.

Please complete the steps below ASAP and by Monday, May 22 to confirm your enrollment in the program. You will be required to enroll by May 22 to be eligible to use your SEPTA Key Card beginning Thursday, June 1.

1) Obtain a SEPTA Key Card

If you already have a valid SEPTA Key Card, you may skip this step.

Students who do not have a valid SEPTA Key Card will need to purchase one for a one-time, out-of-pocket cost of $4.95 in order to access the program. You may purchase a card at any SEPTA Key Card Buy/Load Location.

2) Register Your SEPTA Key Card

If you already have a registered SEPTA Key Card and Account, you may skip this step.

Once you've obtained a SEPTA Key Card, you will need to register it and set up a SEPTA Key Account following the steps on the SEPTA Key website. You may also reference Step 2 in the How-To User Guide. Note that the other steps are for benefits-eligible employees only.

Input your Key Card Number (Front) and Key Card Serial Number (Back). Choose a username and password and follow the rest of the steps to create your SEPTA Key Card Account. Make sure you use a valid email address to complete the registration process. An account confirmation email will be sent to the email address you entered while creating your account. Once you receive the email and verify your account, you can then log into your SEPTA Key Card Account.

3) Copy Your Card Reference ID

Once you've registered your SEPTA Key Card and set up your account, log in and navigate to the My Account page of the website. Your SEPTA Key Card information will be shown here.

Next, click Card Options and select Card Reference ID. The Card Reference ID is needed to link your SEPTA Key Card to the SEPTA Key Advantage Program through jawnt. The Card Reference ID contains both numbers and characters and is case sensitive, so it is best to copy this ID through your browser and paste it to the final location. Continue to Step 4.

4) Update your jawnt account with your card reference ID

  1. Log in to your jawnt account and find SEPTA Key Advantage under Enrolled benefits.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Scroll down to the Details section and click Card Reference ID.
  4. Erase the old Card Reference ID and Paste your new Card Reference ID. Your new Card Reference ID should be copied directly from your SEPTA Key account by following the steps outlined above. If you need help finding your Card Reference ID, click here.
  5. Click Save. You should now see your new Card Reference ID under the Details section.
  6. Click Update enrollment on the bottom of the page. Please take note of the date that these changes will go into effect.

For a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), visit the jawnt website.

If you have successfully completed all of the steps listed above by Monday, May 22, 2023, you will be eligible to begin using your SEPTA Key Card like the Anywhere TrailPass beginning Thursday, June 1, 2023.
