Top Five Things About (and why to attend) Drexel University

September 20, 2024

Nobody ever said the transition to college is easy. In fact, most of the time you probably hear quite the opposite. But when you’re making a transition to a school such as Drexel University, you have a lot to look forward to that will help make your experience as smooth and welcoming as possible. The Drexel Experience is one that no Dragon will ever forget, but just like at any school, there are definitely some things that are good to know before stepping foot in University City.

  1. No Football, No Problem!
It’s no secret that Drexel doesn’t have a football team hitting the field for Friday Night Lights. What we do have, however, is a plethora of other incredible sports that our fellow dragons get to cheer for week after week. Our men’s and women’s basketball teams are two of our most successful teams on campus, and they are sure to put on a show every time they step on the court. After years of renovations and improvements, the DAC has created an incredible environment for players to compete in and students to spectate in, and each game is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
  2. Urban Legend
Here at Drexel, we have many restaurants and food trucks that appeal to any diet or palate preference. Apart from those, our campus is home to its two dining halls: Urban Eatery and Hans Schumacher. During your time here you are bound to make the trip to both halls, however, because if its location, Urban is most likely to be booked and busy at all hours. With an omelet station, options for those with strict dietary restrictions, and fun events going on, Urban Eatery is often the place to be.  Additionally, near most of our freshman dorms is Northside Dining Terrance, consisting of a Chik-Fil-A, Wild Blue Sushi, and The Market. Though not an official dining hall, Northside is often the hub of campus when it comes to grab-and-go lunches purchased with dining dollars or cash.
  3. Concrete Jungle (Where Dreams are Made of)
One of the many perks of Drexel University is its proximity to the great city of Philadelphia. There are many amazing sites and activities only a hop, skip, and a jump (a five-minute Septa ride) away from our dorms and classes. If you’re a history buff, this place is for you, as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall are practically in your backyard! But don’t fret, if history isn’t your thing and you’d prefer to eat and shop around, the city has more than plenty to offer in that department as well.
  4. Let’s “Co-Op”-erate With Each Other!
Arguably the most unique thing about being a student at Drexel is the Co-Op experience. Whether you choose the four- or five-year plan, you will have the opportunity to get a six-month job in the field that you are majoring in, giving you workplace experience building your resume. Scoring a job in the “real world” before even graduating college is rare yet extraordinarily beneficial and has proven to give Drexel students a true leg up in the job search post-graduation. No need to worry about this ordeal, as our amazing professors and administration make the Co-Op search and application process not only smooth, but fun as well!
  5. Clubbing, Anyone?
No matter how many years you spend at Drexel, there are always clubs that you have yet to hear about. Our university offers over 300 clubs and organizations, so there is surely something for everyone. From varsity sports to club sports, honors societies to business groups, all the way to the light saber club, every student at Drexel is bound to find not only an activity that piques their interest, but a group of lifelong friends to share it with. Going to college is no easy feat, but choosing a college that you know has everything you need is certainly easier. Drexel grows and changes every day, bettering itself for those who attend. There is no shortage of positives when it comes to attending Drexel University, but perhaps the best of all is repping Blue and Gold for the rest of your life.
