The Future Educators of Drexel is a student organization in the School of Education that gives students interested in the field of education opportunities to connect with their peers and sharpen their skills as they prepare for their future careers. Learn more about this organization from Isabel Comber, BS in Elementary Education, who is the current president of the organization.
What is the mission of Future Educators of Drexel?
Comber: Our mission is to further the involvement of our members in the field of education through community and social opportunities. We seek to build connections within the School of Education and foster community through our social events and mentorship program.
What is the focus of the social events you organize?
Comber: Our main focus is social events that serve as an opportunity for students to meet, build relationships, and create a support system within the School of Education. Last year, we had a movie night, board game night, as well as meetings for our yearly mentorship program.
What is an achievement your organization is proud of?
Comber: Our mentorship program is something we do every year that I feel extremely proud to oversee as the current President. We match up each freshman to an upperclassman to serve as their mentor for the rest of the school year. The purpose of this program is to help new students meet older Drexel members and create an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and advice.
Who is the organization open to?
Comber: Anyone with an interest in education is welcome to join FEDs! Interested students can submit a membership request online through Dragonlink. Since we are a close-knit community, we encourage new members to reach out to any board member (our emails are in Dragonlink as well) with any questions.
What are your goals for the academic year?
Comber: Our goals this year are to continue to build community within the School of Education and begin to implement more educational experiences with local educators and recent alumni. We want our club members to get the opportunity to hear from guest speakers and have discussion panels that branch out beyond Drexel and into our local school districts.
Is there anything else you would like people to know about your organization?
Comber: We want all students with an interest in education to consider joining our club this year, including those who are minoring in education or considering it! We have a lovely, supportive community within the School of Education and would be ecstatic to share it with more students this school year!
