EdD Students Named 2023-2024 Provost Scholars
December 15, 2023
A pair of students in the School of Education’s EdD in Educational Leadership and Management program are included in this year’s cohort of the Nina Henderson Provost Scholars program. Charlotte Klass ’25 and Jessica McAtamey ’24 were selected by the Office of the Provost to join other graduate students from across the university to work on projects to inform and enhance Drexel’s 2030 Strategic Plan.
Launched in the fall of 2021, the Nina Henderson Provost Scholars program is an annual scholarship program that gives 12 students the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and have a hands-on role on improving the Drexel experience. Throughout the 2023-2024 academic year, Charlotte and Jessica will work alongside the Provost and senior Office of the Provost leadership on a variety of projects.
Charlotte, a student in the Philly hybrid EdD program, will work on a project titled, “Teaching with Technology at Drexel University: Creating Student-Centered Learning Experiences.” Through the project, Charlotte and others will examine the innovative uses of teaching with technology across the university. They will speak to professional staff, faculty, and their fellow students to gain a good understanding of teaching and learning experiences at Drexel and make recommendations as to which educational technologies can make the greatest impact on student engagement and success.
Charlotte brings a unique perspective as a special education case manager with a passion for fostering inclusive environments to the project. “As a Nina Henderson Provost Scholar, I hope to draw on my unique perspective as an educator, disability rights enthusiast, and equity advocate to advance the Drexel 2030 initiative and improve the Dragon experience,” she said. “Additionally, I hope to bring the part-time graduate student perspective into the conversation and help drive initiatives encouraging more Drexel community engagement from graduate students.”
Jessica, an online EdD student, will work on a project titled, “Establishing Climate and Sustainability Community-Based Experiential Learning.” She will join The Environmental Collaboratory within the Office of the Provost to develop effective models of partnership between universities and community-based organizations and municipalities.
Jessica brings 20 years of experience as an educator in the School District of Philadelphia where she currently serves as a principal and social work supervisor. She also serves as the Vice President of the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture and the Communications Chair for the Philadelphia Area Peace Corps Association.
“The Nina Henderson Provost Scholars program will enable me to gain new leadership skills along with coaching exposure and mentorship at a premier university that is paving the way in innovation and design in an urban setting,” she said. “I am honored to be a part of this team by both working within it and learning from it.”
