Materials & Supplies
This category includes items that are expended or consumed in the conduct of the project. Typical items would be chemicals, glassware, computer supplies, data collection materials, etc.
Animal Costs
The University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) has oversight of all vertebrate animals used in research. Animals are generally purchased through ULAR and are maintained in ULAR-approved facilities. When budgeting for animal purchases or housing, check with ULAR for the appropriate rates.
Participant Cost Stipends
Sponsors may cover “Participant Cost Stipends” for Drexel students and non-Drexel students who will be receiving a training stipend under a federally sponsored grant via "participant support costs". For a training stipend to be appropriate, the student must be the sole beneficiary of the training and cannot be providing services to the university that would otherwise be considered employment. The grant must explicitly detail the purpose of the training stipend. Examples include National Science Foundation's "Research for Undergraduate Students" (REU) and National Institutes of Health's Research Service Award (NRSA) Fellowships.
Other Costs
This category includes costs that do not fit readily elsewhere, e.g., publication charges, duplication costs, subject fees, radioactive waste disposal, fax charges, computer time for data analytics, purchased services, etc. These costs should be requested in the proposal and in the approved sponsor budget.
