A new federal policy governing certain high-risk life sciences research activities will soon introduce additional oversight, review, and disclosure requirements for some research involving biological agents. Drexel University is actively preparing for implementation and has launched a dedicated website to help researchers understand these upcoming requirements and stay informed as additional federal guidance becomes available.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has released the Draft NIH Biosafety Policy for Research Involving Biohazards and is seeking public comment through October 19, 2026. The proposed policy would replace the current NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules and establish a broader framework for oversight of research involving biological hazards.
