Preparing for Research Ramp Up

June 4, 2020

The Provost’s Office released details on a university-wide plan to begin ramping up research activities including on-campus, field-based and clinical. Based on questions we have received in the past week, we would like to add further clarification.

We are preparing to move into Phase I on Monday, June 8, 2020.

  • This first phase is voluntary for faculty, staff and students.
  • All research activities that can be performed remotely should continue to be performed remotely.
  • You must submit a Request for Return to Research and be approved by your Associate Dean for Research, Chair, Environmental Health & Safety and the Office of Research & Innovation before resuming research activities in Phase 1. The approval process is described below.

PROCESS

We have instituted a collaborative, investigator-driven approach process for reviewing all requests by faculty proposing to return to research.

Step 1: Initiate Request - Complete the Request for Return to Research form. The Request for Return to Research form is multiple-tab, Excel workbook. It is expected that the form will be completed to make it easier to aggregate forms as they are processed for reports and monitoring.

Step 2: Review/Approval - Submit completed request form to your Department/College/School for input, feedback and approval. Each academic unit has developed their own approval chain. Consult with your ADR if you have questions.

Step 3: Submit Approved Requests to the ORI – Once your application has the approval signatures from your ADR, Chair, and EHS, please submit the completed excel form and any supporting materials to the Office of Research & Innovation Research Ramp Up team using the email address: drexelresearchrampup@drexel0.onmicrosoft.com.

Step 4: Final Review/Approval – The ORI has developed criteria for the review of all submissions. ORI will collaborate with other Drexel Administrative and Academic units to evaluate the request. The investigator(s) will be notified of approval or decline within a week of submission.
