New Amendment Process
Any proposed modification to an approved protocol must be approved by the IACUC prior to implementation.
Effective June 28, 2021, all amendments must be submitted using DragonSPOT.
Addition of Personnel
Addition of Personnel amendments are reviewed by the IACUC Administrator on a rolling basis. Personnel amendments must also include:
- Occupational Health & Safety Program (Annual Health Review)
- Species-Specific (Hands-On) Training
- CITI on-line training
Minor Amendments
Minor amendments may be reviewed by the IACUC Chair and Attending Veterinarian on a rolling basis. Examples of minor amendments include:
- administration or substitution of another compound in the same class of drug
- minor procedural changes that do not increase pain or distress
- increases in number of animals if less than 10% of the total originally requested
Significant Amendments
Significant Amendments are reviewed by the full IACUC at monthly meetings and MUST be submitted by end of day on the Tuesday of the preceding week (changed) prior to the meeting. Please see the Significant Amendment Submission Calendar for deadlines. Amendments submitted after this deadline will be added to the agenda for the next IACUC meeting. Examples of significant amendments include:
- a change in the objective of the study
- a change in the class of surgery (such as from non-survival to survival)
- procedures that could lead to greater discomfort or greater degree of invasiveness
- the species or approximate number of animals used (if the increase is 10% or more of the originally-approved number)
- the Principal Investigator
- anesthetic agents or the withholding of analgesics
- the method of euthanasia
- the duration, frequency or number of procedures performed on an animal
All amendments must be submitted using the appropriate form in DragonSPOT. Emails or personal memos will not be accepted as amendment requests.
