Evidenced-Based Teaching Award in Undergraduate STEM Education

The Evidence-Based Teaching Award in Undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Education is given yearly to a full-time tenure track or teaching faculty member in a STEM department* who has completed at least two years of teaching at Drexel. At least one-half the candidate's teaching must be at the undergraduate level. Candidates must demonstrate that they use pedagogical strategies that have been demonstrated in the literature to be effective for teaching students, or that they develop innovative approaches that they are evaluating in their own classrooms.


Candidates must provide the following documentation:

  • A copy of the candidate's curriculum vitae.
  • Up to four syllabi that best represent courses that demonstrate his/her use of evidence-based approaches.
  • A 500 word statement describing the evidence-based teaching practice(s) that he/she uses in class(es) with explanation as to how this is an evidence-based approach (e.g., with support from the literature, or description of how the candidate collects evidence on innovative strategies) and how effective this approach is in the candidate's own classroom, with evidence to support outcomes.
  • Letters of support for this award from the candidate's Department Head which includes comments on the candidate's teaching evaluations; at least one Drexel colleague; and at least one Drexel student.

The award includes a certificate and a monetary award.

*For the purposes of this award, STEM departments include:

Faculty members who are interested in submitting a proposal should prepare their application in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Drexel University Funding Portal, for each competition respectively.
