Provost Awards for Outstanding Scholarly Productivity

Founded in 1891 as Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry, Drexel University has long standing tradition of innovation. The Provost Award for Outstanding Scholarly Productivity was created to honor this legacy.

These faculty awards are an opportunity to increase awareness of the research, scholarship and creative endeavors by recognizing faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to their scholarly field, and who demonstrate leadership in this respect. The following three awards includes a certificate and a monetary award:

Provost Award for Outstanding Early-Career Scholarly Achievement

Purpose: To recognize up to three faculty members (one in Art, one in Science and one in Industry) who have demonstrated unusual excellence in their scholarly field and who are considered emerging leaders in these fields.

Eligibility: Tenure-track, less than 9 years and minimum of two academic years at Drexel; Publications in high impact journals, book chapters or other significant publications, competitive society memberships, strong record of external funding; and Evidence of positive impact of their research/creative activity on their discipline

Provost Award for Outstanding Mid-Career Scholarly Achievement

Purpose: To recognize a faculty member who has demonstrated unusual excellence and become recognized leaders in their scholarly field.

Eligibility: Tenured or tenure-track, 9 to 16 years and a minimum of six years of employment at Drexel; Documented evidence of exemplary research accomplishments on their discipline as evaluated by peers and experts in their field; Evidence of a substantial positive impact of mentorship and/or teaching undergraduate/graduate students and postdocs; and Contributions as a colleague and to research environment of the school

Provost Award for Outstanding Career Scholarly Achievement

Purpose: To recognize a faculty member who has sustained a extraordinarily high-level of scholarly activities which have had a major impact in the greater community (internally/externally) and/or on public perceptions of Drexel University.

Eligibility: A tenured faculty member with more than 16 years since earning his/her terminal degree and a minimum six years of employment at Drexel; national and/or international recognition in the academic community for exemplary scholarly accomplishments (significance, originality, shaping/furthering the field) in the respective discipline as evidenced by the body of their work since the terminal degree.

Nominations

Nominations may be submitted by any faculty member and a faculty member may self-nominate. Nomination packages include:

  • A rationale for the selection of the candidate from nominator (if not self-nominated)
  • A short narrative describing the nominee's scholarly pursuits and their impact
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Confidential internal letters of support from Dean, Department Head, and up to two colleagues
  • Confidential external letters of support from two acknowledged leaders in the field

Submission

Faculty members who are interested in submitting a proposal should prepare their application in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Drexel University Funding Portal, for each competition respectively.
