Academic Transformation and Honors

Drexel University is in the midst of an exciting transformation to support your academic experiences for the 2027-28 academic year and beyond. This transformation allows for an integrated learning experience, flexibility, and opportunities to engage in experiential learning. Within this University transformation, the Honors Program has updated coursework and curriculum to further our mission of creating an environment of curiosity, empathy, and creative thinking for students and faculty.

Some Exciting Updates for Fall 2027

HNRS Course Redesign

Faculty members across the University landscape came together during the Spring and Summer of 2026 to review and update best practices in the classroom and Honors learning objectives, and to codify Honors pillars in education. For the Fall 2027 semester and beyond, you will notice that all your Honors classes will fit under the below pillars:

• Civic Engagement
• Global Perspectives
• Leadership
• Innovation
• Reflection
• Interdisciplinarity

The change to semesters also means more time to dig deeper into HNRS courses and engage in your small, discussion-based courses.

What to Expect

Academic Transformation is an opportunity to engage in your educational experiences in a deep, meaningful way. All Honors Program students will be given information regarding completion plans for both the Honors and Honors with Distinction Track. Your Honors Program advisor will be in touch to provide support to complete your Honors experience with the term to semester change.

For Honors students experiencing the transition, we suggest:

• Prioritizing your degree plan of study with your major advisor. Your Honors advisor is here to support you further with completion plans for your Honors experience.
• If your schedule allows, start to think about when you would like to take HNRS courses: a requirement for both the Honors and Honors with Distinction track.
• Keep on top of email communications with your Honors advisor. Over the 2026-27 academic year, your Honors advisor will be hosting large group advising sessions, planning meetings, and communications regarding your Honors requirements in the semester calendar. Our top priority is supporting students in this transition, so please read our communications so we can best support you.
• Keep up to date on University and college-specific communications with regards to Academic Transformation.
