The power of experiential learning

Law doesn’t live only in a classroom, and as a student in the innovative BA in Law program at Drexel’s Kline School of Law, neither will you.
We’re extremely proud of our co-op program, where students gain hands-on experience working at global law firms like Morgan Lewis and Fox Rothschild, as well as local firms with deep Philadelphia (and Drexel) connections like Sidkoff, Pincus & Green. Students explore how law connects to their other areas of study at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, assist clients navigating the immigration process at HIAS, and provide assistance to individuals seeking to clear their criminal records through Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity (and we’re not trying to brag, but the organization was co-founded by a graduate of Drexel Kline Law’s JD program). (Okay, maybe we’re bragging a little bit. But we’re proud!)
And in the Undergraduate Law program, experiential learning doesn’t begin or end with co-op.
As a Kline Law undergrad, you’ll move seamlessly between classrooms, co-ops, courthouses, and clinics, using what you learn in each setting to ask new questions, gain additional insights, and develop a deeper appreciation for law’s complexity.
From your first classes to your capstone experiences, you’ll engage with law in meaningful, transformative ways. In LAW 101, you’ll visit the Philadelphia Criminal Justice Center to see how the law affects the lives of real people every day. In LAW 135: Introduction to Legal Research, you’ll gain skills working with legal databases that most students won’t get to see until law school. Our Courtroom Advocacy class brings in renowned trial attorneys to help sharpen your skills at understanding and arguing mock trial cases.
All of this means you’ll know a lot about law before you make decisions about whether and what kind of legal career you want to pursue. As senior Lois Cho put it, “I would feel less clear about what I was working towards without the hands-on experience I’ve found here. I know the impact I’m going to make now.”
From Drexel’s campus in the heart of Philadelphia, you will have endless options to see, hear, and participate in the life of the law. We know the legal field can be intimidating, especially for those of us who may not have lawyers among our friends or family. But as current Law major Taniyah Spencer described finding her place in law, “There’s nothing to be scared about when you’re well prepared.”
That's the power of experiential education.
