    • AgeWell Collaboratory Funded Seven Pilot Grants Across Drexel Community

      In January 2022, the AgeWell Collaboratory at Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions funded seven $10,000 pilot grants within the Drexel community to advance our commitment to being an Age-Friendly University. The University received an Age-Friendly University designation in 2019, which is based on 10 principles that reflect our commitment to embracing generational diversity; disrupting ageism; fostering intergenerational connectivity; innovating through age-related research; and understanding the intersectionality of aging, race, ethnicity and health disparities. Each of the inaugural projects below support these essential elements of our Age-Friendly University and will be completed in one year.

    • Drexel University to Host 2022 Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Enrichment Institute

      Drexel University is proud to announce its selection as an Alumni Enrichment Institute Partner for the 2022 Alumni Enrichment Institutes, an opportunity for 2021 Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni to travel to the United States in summer 2022 to collaborate with U.S. counterparts and each other and to continue building the professional and leadership skills they developed during their virtual 2021 Leadership Institutes.  Beginning in late July, Drexel will host 25 of Africa’s bright, emerging leaders for a two-week Alumni Enrichment Institute, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

      Five Drexel faculty will be featured on “Academic Minute” from Inside Higher Ed. on NPR each day this week, part of a rare “takeover week” on the program, including Associate Professor Kara Spiller in the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems spoke about harnessing the body’s immune system for better wound healing — drawn from her work in the new field of immune engineering, and the Office of Global Engagement's Vice Provost Rogelio Miñana, discussing how we can foster global partnerships in a post-pandemic world.

    • International Presentation Award (IPA) Reflection – Nishi Dsouza

      In October of 2021, I was honored to discuss my dissertation research at an oral presentation session entitled "Citizen perspectives on urban health" at the 5th Healthy City Design (HCD) International Congress. The HCD Congress brought together scholars and practitioners around a single topic: urban health. The focus of the Congress was broad: fields such as urban planning, social work, public health, economics, and environmental studies were represented at the conference, enabling and inspiring significant cross-sector collaboration, and action.

    • Global Engagement Funding Award: Food Science in Copenhagen

      Copenhagen has developed a food tourism market based on its restaurants and the innovation that is going on within their food community.  The trip to Copenhagen was to engage with many of these key restaurants and the food innovators.  The restaurant Noma was named the Best Restaurant in the World this past year as they also received their third Michelin star (highest rating a restaurant can receive from Michelin).  I was able to secure the highly sought dinner reservations and met with Jason White, the head scientist for their legendary science lab (pictures included).

      This Fall, Drexel has had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Feher for her Fulbright scholar research.  Dr. Feher comes from Hungary and has many experiences all over the world including work in Southeast Asia.  So, what exactly is she researching?  Her focus is on media, specifically media created or powered by artificial intelligence and how it improves media services but also ways in which it may fail.  One may wonder how Dr. Feher ended up at Drexel, which she shares has been quite a long journey.
