August 13, 2024
Mira Olson (CAEE), along with engineering faculty from INSA Lyon (Institut National des Sciences Appliquees de Lyon), humanitarian aid workers from Humanity & Inclusion and humanitarian trainers from Bioforce, introduced a 3-week international workshop on Humanitarian Engineering from June 24-July 11 in Lyon, France. Students integrated lessons on logistics of humanitarian work, applications of advanced technology in the field, and how the humanitarian sector is working to reduce energy use and environmental footprint into projects introducing technology into humanitarian work. Dr. Olson taught for one week of the workshop on the environmental impact of the humanitarian aid sector. Drexel students Maya Hillis (PhD ENVE / MS PENG) and Sarmad Khan (BS MEM / MS PENG) both participated in the workshop as part of Drexel’s Peace Engineering curriculum.
