Third-Party (Sponsor) Payments

Drexel University offers a third-party payment option. This is available for sponsors who have established a relationship with Drexel and agree to be billed directly.

Sponsors are external organizations, such as companies, foundations, or embassies that agree to pay all or part of a student's tuition and fees directly to the school.

A student must provide a written confirmation from their sponsor detailing what charges they will cover, along with contact information for the person or office to be invoiced.

You can submit your third-party payment documentation to Drexel Central via AskDrexel. Refer to Drexel Central's Contact Us for instructions on how to submit this documentation.

Student Obligations

As per the Student Financial Obligation Agreement, all charges are the responsibility of the student. If you are being sponsored and the sponsor fails to pay a portion or all of the balance, you will be responsible for the balance.

Please carefully read the terms and conditions provided by your organization regarding third-party sponsorship. Students who submit a letter of credit/financial guarantee/purchase order are responsible for knowing the details of the document. The student must read and understand the following:

  • If the sponsor covers a flat amount, percentage, or total charges.
  • If the sponsor covers tuition only, or will also cover other charges (program fees, room/board, health insurance, etc.). It is the obligation of the student to pay any charges not covered by the sponsor by the original due date.
  • Conditional requirements, i.e., credit maximum, sponsor expiration, etc.
  • Any other terms noted on the document presented to Drexel.
  • The sponsor and student are responsible for ensuring that the authorization is received before the billing due date. Students will be responsible for paying any late fees that accrue while being covered by a sponsor.
  • Please note that students must review their monthly eBill to ensure that their sponsor voucher is applied to their account.

Third-Party Transfer

If your tuition is paid by a third-party sponsor, Drexel must receive a financial guarantee (also known as a letter of credit) from that sponsor. This guarantees that the sponsor will pay your charges. While we wait for the sponsor's payment, the charges will still show on your account. To avoid confusion, you'll see a note on your bill labeled "Third Party Transfer." This means your sponsor is expected to pay that amount. If Drexel does not receive the sponsor's payment by the end of the term, the Third-Party Transfer will expire, and you will be responsible for paying the remaining balance.

Third-Party Payment Methods

Drexel University accepts the following forms of payment from sponsors:

  • eCheck/ACH payments
  • Wire transfers
  • Checks

Currently, Drexel does not accept credit card payments from sponsors.

Third-Party Overpayments and Refunds

After your sponsor is billed, they are expected to pay the amount on the invoice. Sometimes, your charges may change after the invoice is generated, such as if you drop a course or receive financial aid. If your sponsor pays more than your remaining balance, the extra payment will be refunded to the original sponsor.

In rare cases, the sponsor may request that any overpayment be refunded directly to you. To do this, the sponsor must provide written instructions on their official letterhead. If Drexel receives this approval, the refund will be issued to you instead of the sponsor.
