Department of Mathematics Distinguished Lecture: Mathematics of Juggling
Tuesday, May 17, 2016
2:00 PM-4:00 PM
Allen Knutson, PhD, Cornell University
Abstract: In the early 1980s three groups of jugglers invented or discovered the same system for denoting juggling patterns. I'll begin by explaining what such a system is good for, and then how this particular one is the simplest or most natural system.
I'll give many demonstrations and explain a number of theorems about it. With results from the '80s, '90s, '00s, and (one of mine) from this year.
